What to ask when sourcing the right UK wellbeing professional
A practical checklist for checking qualifications, experience, safeguarding and whether a practitioner is right for you or your team.

Choosing a wellbeing professional is personal, but it should never be a leap of faith. A polished website and warm manner matter less than clear qualifications, appropriate insurance and experience relevant to your needs.
Start by being specific about the outcome you want. Stress support, rehabilitation, general fitness and workplace engagement each require different expertise.
Ask about training and professional standing
Titles such as physiotherapist, dietitian and clinical psychologist are protected in the UK, while many broader wellbeing titles are not. Ask what qualification the practitioner holds, who awarded it and whether they belong to a recognised professional body.
- What qualification do you hold, and how long did it take?
- Are you insured for this work?
- Do you complete continuing professional development?
- What is your safeguarding and complaints process?
Look for relevant experience
A practitioner can be highly skilled without being right for every client. Ask about work with people who share your starting point, health considerations or business environment. Good professionals are open about their limits and refer elsewhere when another discipline is more appropriate.
Agree practicalities before you begin
Get the fee, cancellation terms, session length, confidentiality arrangements and expected review point in writing. For workplace services, also agree accessibility, data handling and how outcomes will be reported without exposing personal information.
